What is the CVA Spring Classic?

Previously known as the “Pacific Coast Archery Festival,” the 2025 Conejo Valley Archers Spring Classic (“CVA Spring Classic”) is a two-day archery festival (March 22-23, 2025) that offers participants the opportunity to shoot in any or all of three distinct tournaments:  an American 900 Round, a 3-D Round, and a NFAA Field Round.  As we did last year, we are again offering prize money open and traditional classes for men and women in each of the three separate tournaments that make up the two-day CVA Spring Classic, with a minimum guaranteed total prize money pot of $2,500!  The non-money classes will be offered in standard NFAA bow styles (excluding crossbows).

Should I register and pay online, or just register with paper forms the morning of the event?

You should register online. It will save everyone a lot of pain. If you want to register the morning of the event, and use paper registration forms, you will need to fill one out for each tournament you enter. It will be painful and might cramp your shooting hand, degrading performance. Save time - register online! We will attempt to provide internet access at registration so that you have the option of registering and paying on your phone. There is no option to register but not pay online. If you really want to fill out a Registration Form the old-fashioned way, it can be downloaded once the link to the form goes live.

Score entries will be different again this year?

We heard about this new internet thing the kids are talking about, and wanted to get ahead of the curve. We will again attempt to enter scores as they are turned in so that they are immediately available to us and you, if you are not shooting a Money Class event. Money Class scores will not be posted until the close of shooting on Sunday. To make sure this works, write your name the same way you entered your name for registration. We will check your scorecard, enter your name and the score, ask you if everything is correct, and let you submit it. The idea here is that all entrants will have immediate access to scoring as it is entered.

Why are you still offering a “traditional” money class that includes longbows and bare recurve bows? Isn’t that unfair?

Yes, it is unfair, just like our first year with an “open” money class. But, at least in the last several decades, CVA has not offered any prize money shoots, and we had to start somewhere. For the first time in 2020 we offered an “open” money class that any bow style had to shoot in to compete. That was really unfair. But it was a start. Plus, we just like the sound of archers crying; it’s the sound of victory. In 2022, we added a “traditional” class to separate out the purists from the techies. We maintained those money classes in 2023 and 2024. We will evaluate the 2025 CVA Spring Classic after it is concluded, along with your expressions of interest, to decide whether changes are needed.

Will you have separate target officials at each target for the NFAA Hunter/Field tournament and the 3-D tournament?

That has not yet been decided. Right now, we are addressing fair competition concerns by precluding archers from forming teams consisting exclusively of club-mates or teammates in the money classes.

What is the food situation?

Lunch will be sponsored by Slice House by Tony Geminani. Pizza slices will be available for purchase starting at about 12:00 p.m. each day.

You don’t have many frequently asked questions, do you?

No. Even this question is just an attempt to pad the list. But that’s because archers, as a general rule, are so smart that they can just read the information provided to figure things out. Whether they pay attention to that information later is another story… We will try to post good questions here over time as they arise.

You are finally recognizing Silver Senior and Master Senior age divisions?

Yes. Finally.

Are dogs allowed on the range at the Spring Classic?

No. Dogs cannot be brought onto CVA’s archery range.
